Covered Bridges

During your travels here, you may spot wooden monuments of a bygone era. We celebrate and embrace their simple, stately beauty and architecture. You know them as covered bridges. There are more covered bridges in the Valleys of the Susquehanna than there are in any other place in Pennsylvania. People come from all over the world to visit these testaments to yesteryear and simpler times. Guest books are filled with visitors from across the United States, Canada and Europe. What exactly is their charm? Their simple design and organic beauty? The “clomp, clomp, clomp” of their wooden floors? The babbling streams beneath their floorboards?

Whatever the reasons, they invite us to visit them, photograph them; touch their beams and feel their majesty. Perhaps their charm lies in how they remind us of quieter times and simpler days when the pace of life was slower. In this crazy world, they invite us to stop the car; witness their beauty, and take a deep breath and relax.
